FEATURE: They Just Don't Get It: Vibrations
Musical movements don't exist in a vacuum. Any underground subculture is fated to eventually meet the mainstream, and that convergence can be awkward and frustrating, leaving its originators feeling like they've been robbed of control over a scene and a sound they helped create, calling their very identities into question. Thankfully, at least for those of us with a bit of distance, that over-exposure can also be totally hilarious, as is the case with 1996 film Vibrations, which, in its portrayal of the mid-nineties rave scene, wears its ignorance on its sleeve.
